Dealing with Insurance Companies 101- Know your rights!

You have the right to choose who repairs your vehicle! Specifically, the Texas Insurance Code states that vehicle insurance companies may not specify “the brand, type, kind, age, vendor, supplier, or condition of parts or products that may be used to repair the vehicle;” or limit “the beneficiary of the policy from selecting a repair person or facility to repair damage to the vehicle.”

In other words, the insurance company cannot tell you what parts to use to repair you vehicle, nor can they tell you where to take your vehicle for repairs. If they do, they are violating the law and should be reported to the Texas Department of Insurance.
